Check Your Flow Rate
Determine the correct pipe size
The FLOWREAD™ Flow Meter comes in 3 different models, the R-315 for 1.5" pipe, the R-320 for 2" pipe, and the R-325 for 2.5" pipe. You must use the correct model for the correct pipe size for an accurate flow rate reading.
To determine the pipe size, measure the circumference, or the distance around the PVC pipe on your pool system.
Pipe Size: 1.5"
Pipe Size: 2"
Pipe Size: 2.5"
The meter's accuracy is affected by disturbances such as pumps, elbows, tees, valves, etc., in the flow stream. Install the meter in a straight run of pipe as far as possible from any disturbances. The distance required for accuracy is 5 times the pipe size before the meter and 2 times after the meter.
To make it less confusing, we have created both an infographic and included diameter-specific information below to better explain the installation requirements.
For the 1.5-inch pipe diameter, you want to have a minimum of 7.5 inches of pipe before your FLOWREAD™ and a minimum of 3 inches of pipe after.
For the two-inch pipe diameter, make sure you have a minimum of 10 inches of inlet pipe and 4 inches of outlet pipe after your FLOWREAD™.
If you choose the 2.5-inch FLOWREAD™, you need a minimum of 12.5 inches of inlet pipe and a minimum of 5 inches of outlet pipe available.
